Inception
Whitefield in East Bangalore originated in the late 1800s as a small village. It remained a quite and less engaged suburb near Bangalore until the boom of local IT sector in the late 1990s. Connectivity

Whitefield has a railway station which is around 3 km from Whitefield Main Bus Stop. The station is on Bangalore - Chennai route with a double line and is electrified.

A quadruple line project for Krishanrajapuram(KR Puram)-Whitefield belt has been proposed by railway department. Further to this, an enhanced connectivity for Whitefield-Kolar line which is proposed to make the Whitefield station a junction soon.

The important trains to Whitefield depart only from Bangalore City Junction at present. Trains take about 30 to 40 minutes to reach Whitefield from the Bangalore City Junction. Some of these trains passing through the area include the Chennai Express, the Tirupati Passenger, the Seshadri Express, and the Kanyakumari Express, the Mysore-Howrah Express running from Mysore to Howrah.

The closest airport to Whitefield is the Bangalore International Airport(BIAL) - around 40 km far. Several air-conditioned Volvo buses ply on airport route for transport, such as KIAS-4A, 500C, 500L, 500K, 500L, 335E, 335P.
