The Ferns Group of which Ferns Estates & Developers is a part of, was founded by its chairman and managing director Errol Fernandes in 1988. Their first office was located in his house in Cooke Town, Bangalore. His father Clement Fernandes, an NRI in the Middle East, was looking to make a real estate investment in Bangalore. So as a young 24 year old, he looked around for opportunities but could not find a single Gated Community. As a result, Mr. Fernandes Sr was forced into buying an apartment.

Errol Fernandes who had then completed his Engineering degree from MIT with distinction had just received an excellent job offer in Dubai. To the amazement of his parents he turned it down and instead launched Ferns Estates & Developers® with a capital of Rs 25,000! His vision - nobody should be forced into buying an apartment, just because they could not find a decent plot to build a Villa. His 1st Gated Community 'Ferns Avenue' developed in 1988 was just One acre in size. The only amenities he provided in 'Ferns Avenue' were the basics - Security Wall, Electricity & Water. There were no fancy amenities like a club house, swimming pool, tennis courts etc that have now become a default standard in all Ferns Projects. Sold at Rs 30 per sqft Ferns Avenue now commands a price of Rs 3,000 per sqft - an appreciation of 100 times over the last 20 years! The reason was that the project was a stone's throw away from the existing Ring Road. That has been the story of all the Ferns developments to date. All the projects are strategically located with excellent growth potential, though this may not be immediately visible to the layman's eye.
