It’s a good news for all residents of Uttar Pradesh. After Lucknow, 3 new cities, namely Agra, Meerut and Kanpur will open their metro services by 2024. Uttar Pradesh being the most populous state in India has an urgent need for better transport system. Hence, the government will be spending an estimate of 44,000 crores into these three metro services.

A cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was held regrading the new metro services. The year 2024 will be an important year for the BJP Government since Lok Sabha elections will be around the corner.

More than 13,000 crore would be used to build two metro corridors in Agra. Agra is an important place as far as tourism is concerned. This will also boost the economy in Agra.

Kanpur, on the other hand is a highly industrial area and due to a high population, there is in an urgent need for metro service. Kanpur project will have 31 stations and is going to be a 30 km network , costing more than 17,000 crore.

Meerut which is very close to the capital, has also seen a meteoric rise in the population due to the industrialization. Meerut project will be the largest project among the 3 and have a 33 km network costing around 13,800 crore.

After the creation of Maharashtra Rail Corporation, UP is set to have its own Uttar Pradesh Rail Metro Corporation. Moreover the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation will be reconstructed as a ‘single special purpose’ entity. Lucknow metro has by far carried 3.45 million commuters in its first year and still under construction in most of the region.
